Occ Summary

Develop, improve, or restore skills in a ctian of care.Develop and update appropriate plan of care in collaborati onvitiesof daily living, workor productive activities and play or leisur e.

Intervention involvestherapeuticuse of meaningful and purposeful occu pations, adaptation ofenvironments, promotion of health and wellness, gr adedtasks andactivities as prerequisites to engagement in occupations, d esign,fabrication, application or training in the use of assistive techn ologyor orthotic / prosthetic devices, application of physical agent modal itiesand application of ergonomic principles to the performance ofoccupa tions.

Serve as a resource person for the team and department;participat esinorientation of new staff therapists, physicians andother health pers onnel.

The senior participates in teaching activitiesfor occupational th erapy and other health related students.

Work Performed

See departmental criteria for clinical ladder advancement eligibility .Demonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizingcomp lexevaluation data identifying diagnosis and developing acomprehensive p lwith thepatient / family and related to the person's age and lifestyle wi thmeasurable long and short termgoals and a defined D / C plan.

Understand the role of occupational therapy in the context of thepatient's age, tot al needs perspective and environment.

Select and administer appropriate a ssessment and treatment techniques.Perform age appropriate competency sk ills in area of practice and withrespect to individual patient's problem s.

Follow intervention protocols and revise interventions appropriately.D ischarge patient when goals have been met or medical necessity is nolong er indicated.

Establish provisions for continuing services / follow up as n eeded.Meet competency skills for evaluations in area of practice.

Consist ently meet patient care productivity standard as established forjob clas sification.Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contribute t otheoverall productivity of the team.

Utilize support personnel (aides, s dparticipate in patient coverage efforts across alldivisions within thed enior aides, assistants) asappropriate and available.

Actively support an epartment as necessary.Assess the learning needs and capabilities of pat ients and caregivers.Initiate patient and family education in a timelyma nner relative toage, LOS, readiness to learn, and emotional status.

Utili ze appropriate methods and materials for effective learning,monitoring r esponse to education, and adapting program appropriately.

Ensure thatpati ent / family understands when and how to access furtherintervention.Patien t care documentation is timely, legible, and efficient.

Documentationis c oncise, pertinent and meets the professions anddepartments documentation standards.Oral reporting is clear, concise, relevant, and timely.

Perform all required data collection for the department accurately andwithin exp ected time frame.Peer review standards are consistently met.

Collaboratee ffectively with other members of the health care team.Take one to twostu dents for short-term clinical rotation.

Adjust supervisory techniquesfor individual students' needs.Provide in-services on clinical education att ended.Perform other relatedduties incidental to the workdescribedherein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy, with Master's or Clinical Doctorate in physical therapy preferred.

Experience

None beyond required education, although more experience may be preferred at times.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Current Physical Therapist license in North Carolina
