Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Controller for the Finance / Accounting Group in our Menlo Park, CA office. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Finance and Accounting and will provide leadership, direction and mentorship to our accounting teams in Menlo Park and Phoenix.

The Controller is primarily responsible for all domestic and international accounting, the monthly close process, journal entries, account reconciliations, taxes, accruals, financial reporting, billing, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and accounts receivable.

This individual will be the primary point of contact with our external auditors and responsible for all SEC reporting and SOX compliance.

You will be responsible for

  • Performing domestic and international accounting close processing including preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal financial reporting packages
  • Managing all accounting functions including, but not limited to, revenue recognition, equity, accruals, international accounting, taxes, payroll, billing, accounts payable, purchasing, and accounts receivable
  • Providing leadership, direction, and mentorship to the accounting team, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, and evaluating performance
  • Working with external auditors to ensure all deadlines are met for quarterly reviews and annual audits
  • Preparing quarterly and annual SEC reports
  • Participating in the ongoing development / establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of processes, controls and system changes
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and financial controls
  • Managing SOX 404 internal control compliance
  • Coordinating preparation of domestic and international tax returns with external tax advisors
  • Preparing quarterly income tax provision
  • Researching, documenting, and implementing new accounting standards and the impact of existing accounting standards on non-routine / significant transactions
  • Improving system efficiencies and business practices
  • Leading strategic financial projects including upgrades or implementation of financial software
  • Managing financial software, designing and testing new reports and processes to meet critical business needs

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required; CPA is required
  • 12+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
  • Ability to work in a global environment and support internal customers geographically disbursed
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, be able to work within tight deadlines, and be able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong excel skills are essential, experience using SQL a plus
  • Must be able to accommodate a hybrid work-in-office schedule; currently at a minimum of four days a week in the office

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth.

Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent.

At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is $- $ depending on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.
