Position description

The Department of Pediatrics and Mattel Children's Hospital of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA seeks faculty members at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Professor levels to join the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine in the Health Sciences series (rank commensurate with academic qualifications).

Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Adolescent Medicine and board certified in Pediatrics, Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Med-Peds.

The clinical duties involve primarily outpatient care for youth up to age 26 years and includes 10% to 20% effort for inpatient care at our Eating Disorder Programs, Medical Stabilization Program (MSP) at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, where incumbent will be part of our rotating faculty group covering the MSP on weekends and holidays.

The incumbents will have the opportunity to build new areas in clinical services and / or research programs according to their specific interests and expertise, with administrative time allotted.

These include but not necessarily limited to reproductive health care, transgender care, and substance abuse. This position includes creative work such as research in the incumbents' interest area that will lead to academic promotion.

Our current research teams in our division focus on reproductive health care, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal microbiome and inflammation, and eating disorders.

Our department also includes a robust health services research group with emphasis on delivery of care, racial justice, health care disparities, immigrant health, school education, and multi-systems approaches to health care.

The incumbents will also have an important role in medical education for Adolescent Medicine fellows, residents (from pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics, family medicine, and internal medicine) and medical students.

The overall percent effort in clinical care, research and education will be negotiable based on funding and the needs of the Department.

The David Geffen School of Medicine provides ample opportunities for professional development as well as education and research.

The DGSOM has recently redesigned the medical student curriculum such that there are new roles for educators taking students for longitudinal teaching in both clinical and research settings.

The Department of Pediatrics has over 30 Divisions and Programs. The Department is the home of the Children's Discovery & Innovation (CDI) Institute which promotes research, funding, and training activities related to improving children's health and health care, spanning from research discoveries in basic science, through translation to clinical care, and implementation in community practice.

A unique feature of UCLA is the presence of the Center for the Health Sciences (CHS) complex that includes the UCLA Medical Center, School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and California NanoSystems Institute, all on the same campus as the Division of Life Sciences and 7 other professional schools and the largest undergraduate student enrollment in the UC system.
