Senior Structural Engineer

Currently we arepartnering with a premier client in the Mobile AL area in search ofa PE licensed Senior Structural Engineer for a significant directhire career opportunity.

Job Summary : Generallyresponsible for supervision and technical direction over a team ofengineers and designers when functioning as a lead engineer.

Aslead engineer responsibilities include total delivery of thecivil / structural deliverables and services on time withinperformance budget and meeting quality expectations.

Duties mayinclude performing advanced engineering work serving as a technicalspecialist for complex engineering assignments.

Work at this levelrequires extensive progressive experience in civil / structuralengineering and involves utilization of project controls for costschedule and quality of projects.

This work will be performed underminimal supervision.

Primaryresponsibilities will include but not be limitedto :

• Reviewing andapproving all civil / structuraldeliverables.
• Validating professional serviceand construction estimates at the beginning of a project and thentracking changes as the projectprogresses.
• Producing professional serviceestimates in accordance with the department standards for projectdeliverables project studies and estimates change notices and forthe development of new work through proposalefforts.
• Establishing the design criteriaincorporating client requirements estimate and / or scope basis anddesign basis meeting applicable state local and federal standardsand codes.

Ensuring that any requirements for permitting have beenestablished and communicated to the projectteam.

• Knowing project scope and deliverables.Initiating timely change notices when deviation is made fromproject scope affecting schedule deliverables or cost of thework.
• Planning and organizing the work of yourteam. Communicating the plan to your team the project leadershipteam and the client.
• Maintaining control of theproject by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budgetprogress schedule commitments and quality standards.

Understandingand utilizing the project tools that are in place for projectcontrol.

• Delegating work to engineers anddesigners in proportion to their technical skills and experiencethen following up for support to ensure efficient progress andquality.
• Consulting with design leaders fromother disciplines in proportion to their technical skills andexperience then following up for support to ensure efficientprogress and quality.
• Producing estimate levelpreliminary designs and material takeoff suitable for the level ofestimate being performed on aproject.
• Developing conceptual layouts and coststudies as necessary to determine the simplest most efficientapproach to solving engineering tasks athand.
• Familiarity with and utilizing departmentdesign and drafting standards.
• Producing detaildesign calculations and sketches for materials of constructionassociated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatlyprepared and organized for efficient checking by others andefficient use by drafters / designers for preparing drawings and as adeliverable when required.
• Producing projectdesigns with efficient use of construction materials with anoverall emphasis on ease of construction and completed productmeeting the expectations of theclient.
• Checking calculations made by otherengineers to ensure accuracy conformance to codes specificationsdesign criteria and conformance to good engineeringpractice.
• Producing constructionspecifications.
• Monitoring drawings in progressto ensure conformance to design calculations andspecifications.
• Assisting the drafting group inresolving routine layout and detailing problems. Ensuring thatsufficient sketches and details are provided for completion ofengineering drawings.
• Reviewing and checkingvendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil / structuralinput.
• Producing bid packages enablingcivil / structural purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement ofmaterials or subcontract pricing.
• Participatingin the planning of training programs continuous educationopportunities and professional development ofstaff.
• Ability to lead small to large sizeteams in coordinating civil / structural efforts and keeping the teamfocused on scope schedule and budget.
• Abilityto identify and develop work sharing packages for interofficeexecution support. Provide leadership to ensure communication andexecution of work within scope schedule andbudget.

Ideal Background

Education : Bachelor or Masterof Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accrediteduniversity is required. Structural coursework is required forstructural engineering positions.

Registration : Professionalregistration is highly preferred.

Experience : This positionrequires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience incivil / structural engineering

Required Knowledge Skills andAbilities

• Familiarity with specifications andinstallation details of construction bulk materials andequipment.
• Ability to create accuratecivil / structural documents from the information found on vendorequipment drawings. Ability to develop civil / structuralspecifications.
• Ability to accurately estimatecompletion of assigned tasks.
• Ability todevelop a construction cost estimate a detailed engineeringschedule and a manhour budget for a small project or an area for alarger project.
• Ability to determineconstruction material quantities.
• Developdesign criteria and scope of work.
• Experiencedin estimating and scheduling professional service hours andassessing the progress and quality of civil / structuralwork.
• Complete understanding of the skills andexperience required to perform engineering and designfunctions.
• Knowledge and application of companyengineering design and CAD draftingstandards.
• Working knowledge of CAD softwareeither AutoCAD Microstation or both.
• Ability tolead teams to deliver on commitments.
• Abilityto deliver convincing presentations of our clients valueproposition.
• Proficient in the use ofMicrosoft Word Excel and Outlook.
• Excellentcommunication skills both verbal andwritten.
• Virtual team skills and relationshipsare developed and able to provide interoffice execution leadershipand support.

PhysicalRequirement

Ability tosit stand or walk for long periods of time.
