Automation Engineer
The Automation Engineer will be required to automate all projects through beginning into late stages.

One of the largest medical device contract manufacturer in the United States. They are currently working on several big time projects for the largest health care providers in the world.
Description
The Automation Engineer will be responsible for :
- Implement semi-automated and fully automated systems to enhance operator safety, product quality, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the introduction and development of new products and optimize existing equipment for integrated solutions.
- Collaborate closely with other engineering teams and the maintenance department to address automation issues, failures, and repairs.
- Diagnose and resolve problems in mechanical, electrical, and control systems, ensuring that automated equipment has redundancy and backup programs.
- Lead efforts to implement process control solutions using automation.
- Set ambitious project improvement goals and drive the implementation to achieve these objectives.
- Develop strategies for process control, communication, and process optimization in collaboration with manufacturing engineers.
- Work with engineering management and business development to create innovative solutions that meet and exceed process KPIs.
- Conduct commissioning and startup activities, including the creation and execution of equipment validation protocols.
- Ensure the delivery of identified value and meet project milestones.
- Design automation systems using programs such as SolidWorks in coordination with the engineering and management team.
- Evaluate, select, and coordinate with external vendors for machining and fabrication of tooling and systems, monitoring progress for manufacturability and cost reduction.
- Provide standards and specifications for devices used in building assembly equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and customer requirements.
- Design, improve, and implement production equipment and processes, as well as fixtures and jigs for assembly, to enhance product quality, increase productivity, or reduce costs.
- Provide budgetary costs and ROI analysis for integrating automation and communication into current assembly systems.
- Identify, justify, implement, and manage new manufacturing systems and equipment to improve plant productivity.
- Train Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Technicians in the basics of PLCs, HMIs, and electrical / electronic troubleshooting.
- Execute engineering and quality methods such as FEA, Tolerance Analysis, DOE, SPC, FMEA, Process Capability, and Root-Cause Analysis.
- Approach process optimization and problem-solving systematically.
- Manage CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions) related to their areas of responsibility.
- Define, produce, and implement process work instructions.
- Create, review, and approve engineering drawings, equipment layouts, and specifications.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Profile
The successful Automation Engineer will have what follows :
- Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering, or a related technical field with a focus on processing and medical device assembly is desirable.
- Working knowledge of ISO standards and relevant customer and regulatory requirements.
Job Experience :
- 3-5 years of direct experience.
- Experience and knowledge in operating and maintaining a classified Clean Room (GMP procedures, HVAC, Data Acquisition, etc.).
- Experience in medical device assembly, including strong knowledge of ISO 13485 / ISO 14971 standards, SPC, TQM, GMPs, and lean manufacturing principles is highly desirable.
Knowledge of automation and auxiliary equipment including robotics, control systems, and material handling (raw material, WIP, and finished product).
Skills / Competencies :
- Proficient in the use of robotics, vision systems, sensors, PLCs, and integration of equipment technologies.
- Lean manufacturing and new product development or launch support experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) programming for various brands (Allen Bradley, Direct Logic, Siemens, etc.).
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, cost justification, and control.
- Preferably, a good understanding of statistical methods and metals machining.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks.
Environmental Working Conditions :
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts while performing job duties.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibrations.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
