HVAC Mechanic Specialist
HVAC Mechanic SpecialistJOB FUNCTION : Performs Journeyman work in the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment and accessories.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Maintain, repair, and install the building’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment as well as all associated controls and piping.
Examples of equipment include but are not limited to : boilers, steam generators, heat exchangers, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, air handlers, fan coil units, CRAC / CRAH, VAV, ductless, split and packaged unit style systems, etc.
Maintain, service, repair, and replace motors, blowers, compressors, coils, bearings, belts, and related control components;
checks all safety and control devices, repairing or replacing when needed.Perform periodic cleaning of air handlers, coils, blowers, ducts, plenums, and various other related apparatus in accordance with current program guidelines.
Make mechanical and electrical (480 volts or below) repairs and alterations, as required, to the air conditioning, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and controls equipment.
Respond to and resolve issues associated with requests for service adjustments and other trouble calls.Troubleshoot design and system control problems and make emergency repairs, as required.
Maintain accurate log of CFC usage and related equipment repairs.Perform preventative maintenance and daily inspections of equipment and associated spaces in accordance with the current program guidelines.
Inform supervisor and / or shop lead of any deficiencies found while performing preventive maintenance and institute corrective action needed to resolve issuesEffectively utilize diagnostic test equipment and other related tools to diagnose and repair equipment deficiencies.
Perform other related work as assigned.Direct lower-level trade personnel as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : Must possess a Journeyman HVAC license, or Maryland Grade I Stationery Engineer License, or DC 3rd steam boiler engineer license or equivalent.
Must possess a Universal CFC license.Working knowledge of steam systems with emphasis on heating and humidification.Working knowledge of chilled water systems, hydronic piping, and associated controlsThorough knowledge of all refrigeration systems with ability to charge, recover, reclaim, test, diagnose, and repair deficiencies within systems.
Ability to read, comprehend, and work directly from blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and various other drawings.Thorough working knowledge of national and local HVAC codes.
Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.A willingness to work rotational shift if necessary, including days, evenings, and nights, as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
EXPERIENCE : Six years of experience in the HVAC trade in maintenance and / or construction required.EDUCATION : High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Master HVAC license.Knowledge of building management systems.Ability to write correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
NFPA-70E TrainingOSHA 10 Training SECURITY : Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery / power tools and motor vehicles.
Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility.
Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.
