Position Summary :
This full-time position is located in Brockton and Quincy and oversees the day-to-day operations of the food program at the Yawkey HRC and the Smith Family HRC.
In addition to overseeing the industrial kitchen and food services serving 170,000+ meals each year, the Food Services Manager will oversee volunteer coordination and communication for the food services program.
This position requires an individual with excellent management skills, an understanding of food service delivery systems including maintaining serv safe and allergen awareness certifications, the homeless population, as well as skills in volunteer engagement and public relations.
Full-time with occasional weekends required for coverage purposes. Hours / days : Monday-Friday, 10a-6p.
Essential Responsibilities :
Food Service Coordination :
- Considerable knowledge of food values, nutrition and menu planning within budget.
- Ability to maintain a variety of online operating and general records as well as the preparation of reports for inventory supplies and purchases.
Oversee and maintain a workable meal plan for 3 nutritional meals a day at both shelter sites. Order and maintain food and supplies for the kitchens.
Supervise, plan, organize and train kitchen staff and volunteers in food preparation and safety. Ensure the kitchen is met with adequate staffing and supervision.
Conduct regularly scheduled supervision in both individual and group formats as needed. Monitor staffing needs and minimize use of overtime.
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Operations to identify kitchen training needs and to facilitate training programs.
- Enforce established kitchen policies.
- Considerable knowledge of health and safety requirements enforcing effective safety protocols to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Ensures that all equipment and areas are properly cleaned at all times. In partnership with Property Management, assist with the identification and work order process to ensure kitchen facilities are maintained and issues are resolved promptly.
- Assist in the coordination of food preparation for special events as needed.
- Coordination with the City Health Inspector(s) to ensure compliance with food safety regulations in the kitchen, storeroom, and dining room areas, as well as The Greater Boston Food Bank requirements and inspections.
- Responsible for maintaining a valid Serve Safe certificate and Food Allergen certificate as well as scheduling and tracking Serv Safe and allergen awareness certifications for all kitchen staff.
- Coordinates Thanksgiving for the program regions.
- Works closely with all shelter management staff to ensure appropriate coverage for all meals (including covering in the absence of a chef) as well as maintaining the cleanliness of each kitchen facility.
Volunteer and Donation Coordination :
- Works closely with the volunteer coordinator to interview, train and maintain a strong relationship with all our volunteers.
- Updates volunteer coordinator as needed on current volunteer needs for individuals, groups or special needs projects.
- Follows up with potential volunteers, including contacting and / or meeting with potential volunteers and scheduling their volunteer time (with other kitchen staff as appropriate).
- Collaborates with volunteer coordinator in responding to group requests for kitchen projects as well as food donations.
- Along with volunteer coordinator, maintains kitchen calendar for volunteers and meal donations
- Advises volunteer coordinator on any special needs or projects for recruitment of volunteers by volunteer coordinator.
- Responsible for reporting volunteer hours monthly to volunteer coordinator for in kind documentation.
- Serve as ambassador for FBMS with kitchen volunteers and donors. Foster relationships with volunteers / volunteer groups and keep in regular contact with development office regarding relationships that have potential for further engagement.
