Pay Range Information :

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidates qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary :

The Institute for Earth, Computing, Human, and Observing (ECHO) at Chapman University invites applications for a part-time researcher in extreme windstorm research over East Asia. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting research on extreme windstorms, contribute to journal publications and participate in writing extramural grant proposals. Candidates with experience in numerical weather prediction model such as WRF are highly desired.

Responsibilities :

Running Atmospheric Modeling and Conducting Research

  • Dispersion model run and its data analysis
  • Applications of atmospheric modeling data

Radar Data Analysis

  • Doppler Radar Data Analysis
  • Investigate physics and dynamics of convective system
  • High Level Research Support

  • Data Visualization
  • Grant writing
  • Required Qualifications :

  • Ph. D. in Computational Science.
  • At least two years of recent hands-on research experience and advanced training in a Data Mining, Machine Learning, Big data Analytics, applied computer programming, Earth systems science research and current data science techniques.
  • Technical experience in programming.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills to support research design and statistical analysis of data.
  • Technical ability to learn and use enterprise software.
  • Analytical skillset and working knowledge of Atmospheric science theory and related diverse datasets.
  • Strong writing and editing skills to prepare and proofread clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence, reports and publications.
  • Demonstrated effective oral communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Experience in coordinating research projects from beginning to end, including but not limited to planning method and techniques, identifying and using appropriate project resources, determining data collection and analyses methods, assessing data for accuracy, validity and integrity, and interpreting and reporting results.
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures that pertain to the duties of this position.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Degree in M.S (Master of Science)
