Job Duties

The Office of the Chief Staff Attorney Paralegal provides paralegal support for Staff Attorneys in preparing appeals for Judicial review and disposition.

Manage cases throughout the petition stage of the appeal : receive assigned cases from the Clerk’s Office; organize and assign cases for presentation to the Court;

organize, schedule, and provide oversight of the Court’s Writ Panel dockets; ensure dispositions are timely reported to the Clerk’s Office.

Maintain case flow through the case management system and communication with the Clerk’s Office.

Provide research and administrative support functions as assigned by the Chief Staff Attorney. Assist in the procedural review of appeals.

Present continuance requests and motions to the Court.

Assist with training new attorneys and interns in office orientation, computer applications, and Court rules and requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, case management systems, and document management systems.

Knowledge of appellate rules and regulations is a plus.

This position requires well-developed written and oral communication skills, proficiency in time management, ability to work independently and as a team member.

Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, adjust priorities without close supervision, and interact effectively with Court staff and the general public.

Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel is required, and a solid working knowledge of databases, cite-checking, Lexis, and other legal search engines is preferred.

Additional Considerations

A bachelor’s degree or a paralegal certificate is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria.
