Job Summary
Under general supervision, serve as a Health Education Specialist for Early Head Start (EHS) and Head Start (HS) Community Programs (CHS).
Main duties managing data collection, data entry, and contributing to program evaluation. Responsible for the implementation of the EHS and HS performance standards.
Provides education and prevention services to families, children, and staff in the programs. Able to provide culturally competent health education messages and facilitating individualized behavior change interventions to meet families and children needs.
Identify new and existing resources and organizations that serve health needs, develop, and maintain community partnerships, and organize and assist with educational activities focused on health.
Participate in events / trainings / presentations with community partners and childcare centers. Collaborates and helps with team projects and / or activities and additional administrative support.
Ensures that identified health needs and medical emergencies are referred to the RN / Child Care Health Consultant team.
Requires travel between various sites.
Essential Functions :
- Participates in activities defined by our grants, specifically related to children services. (20%)
- Acts as a point of contact between ACS-CHS Head Start Program and the agency support. (20%)
- Continues to work with the agency to meet grant requirements. (20%)
- Helps with documenting and communicating any changes to processes. (20%)
- Assists with overall data tracking. (20%)
Education :
Bachelor's Degree Required
Work Experience :
- 1-3 years One year in Health Care, preferred. and
- 1-3 years Experience planning events and / or trainings, preferred and
- 1-3 years Experience providing training to professionals, communities or students, performing outreach, data-tracking, preferred and
- 1-3 years Experience working with programs addressing health disparities in racial / ethnic communities, preferred. and
- 1-3 years Experience with evidence-based health education strategies and program evaluation preferred
Licenses :
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge and comfort in addressing topics related to community health with families and staff.
- Knowledge of comprehensive health education, behavior change theory and patient population served.
- Skilled in identifying problems and opportunities to improve health education services for children.
- Ability to encourage and enhance health educator services through feedback and available resources.
- Experience facilitating one-on-one confidential visits and managing caseloads.
- Excellent communication, organization, and people skills.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability as a self-starter who can prioritize and conduct multiple activities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and independently.
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Ability to show evidence of educational preparation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional travel from site to site.
- Fluency in Spanish, beneficial.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
