The Office of the Governor is looking for a Deputy Communications Director (Director III) to work in the Communications Division.

The salary is $11,916.67 - $12,250.00 a month ($143,000.04 - $150,000.00 a year). Benefits include medical insurance, sick leave, and vacation leave.

What You'll Do

This is a job that performs advanced (senior-level) managerial and communications work. Work includes overseeing the production of content and materials for digital projects for the agency, to include the development, execution, and delivery of digital content across the OOG's website and social medial channels.

Provides technical communications support, including crafting clear and well-written materials consistent with OOG messaging to increase the Governor's voice, presence, and visibility statewide.

Through careful writing, editing, and proofreading, ensures that all internal and external correspondence, reports, presentations, and materials are flawless, including grammar, style, accuracy of information, punctuation, and content.

Uses a wide range of reference and research tools and consults with subject matter experts where necessary.

Assists the Communications Director in the planning, organizing, and coordination of the agency's communications strategy.

Serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Communications Division to ensure smooth, ongoing operations as the Director engages in strategic planning and messaging.

Makes high-level decisions to promote and fulfill the communications plan during times when the Director is otherwise engaged.

Assists the Director with the day-to-day management and supervision of Division personnel, specifically digital personnel, including assigning and monitoring workload, priorities, delegation of duties, staff development, performance management, and other management priorities.

Assists in the development and implementation of public events to promote the Governor's agenda, including, but not limited to, press conferences, announcements, and roundtables.

Provides direction, guidance, and assistance in program areas.Supervises the preparation and distribution of content for all social media sites within the agency.

Oversees content posted on OOG's website and social media accounts.Plans, develops, and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals.

Works with the Digital Media Manager to set specific digital objectives, develop website and social media content strategies for the agency, and monitor progress.

Develops or assists with developing social media policies and procedures.Works with OOG staff and state agency communications for message coordination.

Effectively supports OOG media efforts through writing, proofreading, and editing web and digital content, press releases, media advisories, publications, and briefs for public and media release.

Drafts, edits, and independently prepares high-level correspondence and responds to media and / or public inquiries as authorized, ensuring proper coordination with the Director.

Ensures that all correspondence accurately reflects the Governor's agenda and is well-written, grammatically correct, and accessible information.

Performs research as necessary to write and respond to complex technical issues.Verifies that project deliverables consistently comply with departmental expectations, agency style, and communication guidelines.

Verifies and thoroughly researches source information as necessary to ensure the accuracy of all correspondence prior to release.

Oversees the work quality of other Division staff, including correcting misspellings or inconsistencies, updating talking points or messaging, and ensuring that all elements of clear and concise communication are met.

Establishes and maintains recordkeeping and work papers of research sources, editorial recommendations, and errors.Maintains the highest ethical and confidentiality standards.

How You'll Qualify

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in digital technologies, journalism, communications, public relations, advertising, or a relevant field;

andFive (5) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public information, or media relations, including prior experience managing others.

Note : Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Six (6) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public information, media relations, or related field;

Proofreading and editing experience;Excellent written and verbal communication skills; andSkill with web-based technologies and social media development.
