Job Summary : As a key member of our Bakery / Coffee Shop Department, this position provides excellent customer service while preparing and serving high quality drinks and baked goods.
This role is also responsible for training all department team members in coffee quality standards, proper and efficient bar flow, customer service, product preparation, food safety, and merchandising.
Specific Job Duties :
- Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following : *
- Assumes primary role in training and mentoring of all Bakery Clerk / Baristas.
- Trains team members to follow drink menu recipes and food preparation guidelines including quality, freshness, and portion control.
- Educates Bakery / Coffee Shop team members on established coffee speed and quality standards, proper bar flow, and efficiency;
instructs team members to communicate the story and style of Metropolitan Market coffee to customers; provides education on the Private Label roasted coffee offerings.
- Coordinates all in-store Caffe Vita training for Bakery Clerk / Baristas, Store Director Teams, Customer Service Managers, and other departments as needed.
- Conducts online skill assessments on new team members and provides feedback to the Bakery / Coffee Shop Manager.
- Assists department leadership with new program and policy rollouts; ensures team members are familiar with new processes and procedures.
- Fosters a positive learning environment by encouraging team members to sample coffee and other products and ask questions;
provides product information to be used when assisting customers.
- Mentors and actively works with all Bakery / Coffee Shop team members to ensure customer service expectations for speed and quality are always achieved.
- Demonstrates exceptional leadership in customer service in all areas of the Bakery / Coffee Shop Department; achieves a high level of proficiency in Bakery Clerk / Barista essential job functions.
- Anticipates customer needs and questions related to coffee and other Bakery / Coffee Shop products; works actively to remain knowledgeable and current in areas of responsibility, including product knowledge (e.
g., product tasting, cutting-edge trends, product use research, and vocabulary development).
Other duties as assigned by the Bakery / Coffee Shop Manager.
Skills Required / Qualifications :
- Candidates will be selected from applicants having the best combination of the following qualifications : *
- Minimum one year Bakery / Coffee Shop experience within company strongly preferred.
- Must possess a minimum of one year of customer service experience.
- Ability to work various shifts to accommodate training needs.
- Demonstrates an interest in learning; possesses a strong interest in coffee and related products.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and produce quality output while working within deadlines a must. Sense of urgency required.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates a high level of self-motivation; takes initiative; problem solves.
- Possesses knowledge of food safety and HACCP / department of health guidelines, and inventory / portion control.
- Possesses adequate product information with a proven history of using knowledge to best service customers. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of food, including ingredients, applications, pronunciations and culinary skills.
Possesses a genuine passion for food.
- Proven success as a team member; demonstrated ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills required.
