Position description

Under the general guidance of the Director and Associate Director of Analytical Writing, the Associate Director of Curriculum Development is expected to serve as one of a team of program leaders dedicated to building and maintaining a program dedicated to best practices in the teaching of writing to a diverse student population.

  • Duties for this position include : developing curricular resources including syllabi, course content, and teaching notes;
  • supporting the Analytical Writing faculty in implementing program principles and methods in their classrooms; providing materials for and co-leading faculty meetings designed to norm classroom instruction and portfolio assessments;
  • assisting in portfolio assessment; assisting in developing and assessing the university's writing placement tool; assisting in composing surveys and collecting data for program assessment;
  • maintaining the program's learning management sites and other technologies; training faculty in the use of these technologies;

promoting a program culture that encourages inclusiveness and rigor in the teaching and learning of writing; and ensuring that the AWP curriculum and instructional methods serve as instruments of equity that work to close educational gaps among students.

The Associate Director for Curriculum Development also expected to be an effective teacher who can enact the program's principles and practices in their writing classroom.

To succeed as an Assistant Teaching Professor at UC San Diego, the Associate Director of Curriculum Development is expected to : 1) demonstrate consistent excellence in their teaching and in their support of AWP faculty;

2) engage in professional activity; and 3) participate in program and university service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Must possess a Ph.D. in Composition or related field and have at least two years of experience teaching writing to first-generation students, members of under-represented minorities, and / or multilingual writers.

Preferred qualifications

At least 1-2 years of experience in writing program administration and curricular design

At least 1-2 years of experience in writing assessment and placement

At least 1-2 years of experience using academic technologies, such as learning management systems, and other tools, like Microsoft Office and Google Workplace
