Innovation Engineering Department

The Innovation Engineering team is responsible for the development of standards, templates, specifications, and owner's requirements documents in support of Vantage's global growth, most notably leading the Vantage prototyping effort known as OneDesign .

The team collaborates with all multi-functional teams within Vantage to drive prototypical designs for global deployment to ensure high quality, consistent product deployments in alignment with constantly evolving internal and external customer requirements.

In addition to standards development, the Innovation Engineering team is responsible for leading due diligence assessment of merger and acquisition opportunity, and development of design requirements for customer build to suit opportunities.

This role can be based in any of our US locations : Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA or can be based remotely. #LI-Remote

Vantage is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Innovation Engineering team, which is responsible for the standardization of products across Vantage's companywide portfolio.

In this role, you will lead the design development of microgrid solutions, on-site power generation, and high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, switchgear, and MV transformers.

You will also develop associated standards and specifications to establish a robust procurement program. The role requires regular teamwork and coordination with architects, other engineering disciplines, procurement, and the facility operations team.

You will collaborate with regional design and execution teams to ensure new standards are established and existing standards are implemented, incorporating necessary enhancements into standard designs and specifications.

Essential Job Functions

Design and Engineering Leadership :

Lead design and engineering efforts for high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, switchgear, and transformers.

Supervise the development of microgrid solutions, including system-level architecture and integration with renewable energy sources that can operate in grid-connected or island mode.

Collaborate with mechanical counterparts to develop and optimize central utility plants design and required electrical interface.

Standards and Specifications Development :

Develop, maintain , and update standards and reference designs, including electrical block diagrams and single line diagrams, to enable rapid deployment with minimal site adaptation.

Coordinate with internal teams to develop on-site power generation solutions and optimize central utility plants design.

Innovation and Implementation :

Drive innovation by implementing emerging technologies, product developments, and patents to enhance Vantage's competitive advantage.

Ensure consistent design execution through coordination and handoff to internal and external project resources for site adaptation of program prototypes.

Technical Oversight and Coordination :

Provide oversight and review of program-level design plans, equipment, and system submittals.

Conduct value engineering analyses and provide system recommendations based on return on investment (ROI) and internal rate of return (IRR) analysis.

Coordinate heavily with internal engineering teams across all fields to ensure products delivered to operations are streamlined and optimized to meet business needs.

Engineering Analysis :

Use engineering analysis programs and professional judgement to analyze loads, lighting levels, and short-circuit currents, including :

Load Analysis and Failure Scenario Calculation.

Short-circuit and overcurrent protection device coordination studies.

Arc Flash mitigation studies.

Distribution analysis, including voltage drop and underground duct bank head effect (Neher-McGrath) calculations.

Lighting photometric studies.

Quality Assurance :

Visit manufacturing plants for Factory Witness Testing (FWT) of critical equipment.

Ensure quality and reliability of designs through rigorous testing and validation processes.

Additional Duties :

Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

Education :

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering , or a related field.

Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.

Experience :

5-7 years of experience with microgrids, high-voltage electrical system design and construction required .

Data Center and / or mission critical experience is preferred.

Skills :

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, AmpCalc and ETAP modeling software.

Solid understanding of critical power infrastructure within a data center.

Solid understanding of all building and fire codes ordinances.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

National and International Travel required is expected to be up to 10-15 % but may increase over time as the business evolves .

Additional Details

Salary Range : $150,000 - $165,000 + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
