Summary :

Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officer’sduties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity,providing security for patients, Associates, and visitors,protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets and premisesas assigned.

The Armed Security Officer is responsible forresponding to all emergency codes, internal / external disasterevents as needed and / or requested, conducting preliminaryinvestigations of reported incidents, and performing other securityrelated tasks as directed by a security supervisor / and or Manager.

The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and beable to rotate between facilities including travel whenevernecessary.

Responsibilities :

  • Conducts frequent security patrols of thefacilities and grounds asassigned.
  • Identifies and reports trendsrelated to security issues. Recommendsactions.
  • Takes initial information for anincident report, uses proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, notesonly the facts, leaving out personal opinions and submits report ina timely manner (no later than the end of assignedshift).
  • Responds promptly to all servicerequests relayed by supervisor, telephone, pass-on, e-mail, radio,cell phone and other correspondence in a courteous and expeditiousmanner.
  • Responds to the collection,inventory and return of lost and found items, patient valuables,medication, and personal property according to policy.

F. Enforcesall rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Healthand the laws of the state in which CHRISTUS is doingbusiness.

  • Controls and enforces facilityparking through the use of patrols, violation warning citations,towing, booting and explanation of rules asapplicable.
  • Assists clinical / non-clinicalAssociates with combative patients orvisitors.
  • Demonstrates competence toperform assigned client care responsibilities in a way that meetsthe age-specific and developmental needs of persons served by thedepartment.
  • Demonstrates proficiency andknowledge in the operation of the Attendant Console, Paging System,security radio / dispatch system, operations of the Digital VideoRecorder (NVR) security monitors (CCTV) and the general overheadpaging system.
  • Must be proficient withthe use of a PC to generate electronic daily activity securityreports, incident reports, emails, and other applicable electroniccorrespondence during the performance ofduties.
  • Promotes a safe environment byreporting safety hazards observed (broken water / sprinkler lines,burned out internal / external lighting, smoke / gas odors, trippinghazards, etc.

during the performance of securityrounds.

  • Appropriately adapts assignedclient assessment, treatment and / or care methods to accommodate thephysical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs ofeach person served.
  • Demonstrates adherence tothe CORE values of CHRISTUSHealth.

Requirements :

  • High school diploma or its equivalentrequired.
  • Must have the ability tointeract appropriately with all staff, patients, and visitors,especially under difficultcircumstances.
  • Must be mentally alert atall times.
  • Must have excellent written andverbal communication skills.
  • Must be ableto make immediate decisions with regard to laws, policies, andprocedures.
  • Must have / maintain validmotor vehicle license.
  • Demonstratedcompetence with handgun, hand cuffs, baton, non-crisis interventioncertification and two-wayradios.
  • Frequent exposure to aggressivebehavior and emotionally chargedsituations.
  • Occasional exposure tohazardous conditions such as fires, chemical spills, andflooding.
  • Frequent exposure to heat andcold from external weatherconditions.
  • Long periods of walking,standing, stooping, and lifting.
  • Must bephysically fit and able to walk all areas of the facilities andgrounds, to restrain those who need restraint and be able to assistnursing staff with lifting patients of allsizes.
  • Must be able to handle multipletasks and prioritize.
  • Must be able tohandle personal stress and possible violence.
  • CHRISTUS Approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with dresscode requirements.

Experience :

  • Prefer minimum two (2) years of armed securityexperience (may substituted by Honorable MilitaryService).
  • Law enforcement experiencepreferred.
  • Previous healthcare securityexperience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications :

  • Level 3 Certification(Texas).
  • For positions in the state ofTexas, an active level three security officer commission with theTexas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (TDPSPSB)is required.
  • New hires in Texas who havecompleted the security commission course with (TDPSPSB) must obtaintheir security commission prior to date of hire and 1) theofficer’s commission card is active 2) the officer’s commissioncard is in the possession of the security officer 3) the CHRISTUSVice President of Security has issued a letter of authorization tocarry an assigned CHRISTUS Health Security weapon while on duty tothe officer.
  • New hires in New Mexico whohave completed the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Boardlevel three training requirements must be eligible to process andobtain their security commission prior to date of hire and;

1) theofficer’s commission card is active 2) the officer’s commissioncard is in the possession of the security officer 3) the CHRISTUSVice President of Security has issued a letter of authorization tocarry an assigned CHRISTUS Health Security weapon while on duty tothe officer.

  • New hires in Louisiana maynot wear their weapon on duty until they have completed 40 hours oftraining and the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security has issued aletter of authorization to carry a CHRISTUS Health Securityassigned weapon while on duty to theofficer.
  • Verbal De-escalation trainingmust be completed within 60 days of hire.
  • Must obtain Basic LifeSupport (BLS) within 60 days of hire from the American HeartAssociation.
  • Expandable Baton training,defensive tactics training, firearms training, weaponqualification, and firearms retention training must be completedprior to letter of authorization to carry isissued.
  • IAHSS Basic SecurityCertification must be completed within one year of full-timeemployment.
  • Successful completion of allpre-employment and post offer assessments to include the MinnesotaMultiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2-RF-PCIR);

theCalifornia Psychological Inventory (CPI); the Police and PublicSafety Selection Report (PPSSR); the Personal Experience Inventory(PEI) and a clinical interview by a third personalpsychologist.

  • Will be required to takerandom drug test screening.
  • ValidDrivers’ license.
  • The following FEMA EmergencyManagement Institute Courses must be completed (online or inseat) :
