About the Job

Construction Management (CMGT) Teaching Specialists are part-time faculty responsible for Construction Management (CMGT) course instruction as contracted by the Undergraduate Applied and Professional Studies (uAPS) unit in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS).

CMGT Teaching Specialists report to the faculty director of the CMGT program and are typically employed on a semester-by-semester basis to teach at least once in an academic year in either a full semester (14 week) or half semester (7 week) course, and in a few cases, once every two years with rotating elective courses.

The position includes requirements for teaching, making course curriculum updates, supporting program initiatives, participating in professional development, and / or course development as needed.

Instructors should have high-levels of professional experience in construction management or related disciplines (such as engineering, architecture or business).

  • CMGT courses include documents and contracts; legal, ethical, and risk issues; planning and scheduling; estimating; safety and loss control;
  • specifications and technical communication; sustainability; materials and structures; building energy systems; building envelope design and construction;

environmental health and safety; building information modeling; cost accounting; LEAN construction; building codes, and others as may from time-to-time be developed.

Most courses are delivered as weekly evening face-to-face classroom classes or a hybrid blend of synchronous classroom and asynchronous online modules.

Many are entirely asynchronous online and can therefore be taught remotely. Teaching modalities may change or adjust from time to time based upon program and industry needs.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement as a hybrid position and has the unique opportunity to help shape and be responsible for the student experience.

The salary range for the position is $4,000-$8,000 per course, depending on whether 1 through 4 credits.

Qualifications

REQUIRED :

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in DEI in professional settings.
  • Bachelor's degree within or closely related to construction management.
  • Six or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to construction management.
  • Three or more years of experience in your area of teaching expertise.

PREFERRED :

  • Master's degree within or closely related to construction management.
  • Teaching experience in higher education or industry professional development.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to construction management in your area of teaching expertise.

DESIRED :

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field closely related to construction management or in adult higher education.
  • Teaching experience in higher education that includes online courses.
  • Five or more years of professional "real world" experience in the private or public sector.
  • A demonstrated understanding of pedagogy that blends theoretical concepts and professional applications.

The College of Continuing & Professional Studies' Construction Management Program is housed within the Undergraduate Applied and Professional Studies (uAPS) unit and includes a CMGT Bachelor's Degree, minor, and certificate.
