Brief Description of Duties
University of the district of Columbia (UDC) Division of Science and Mathematics (DSAM) of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is seeking for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the field of Physical Chemistry starting from as early as Fall in the Chemistry Program.
The Chemistry Program offers an American Chemical Society (ACS) accredited Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Therefore, the position is open to candidates from all areas of physical chemistry who possess an ACS teaching certification.
Candidates with research background connected to bio-physical chemistry are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and deliver very engaging chemistry course curricula and participate actively in research and grantsmanship in a way that advances the mission of our institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, especially lower-level general chemistry, as well as senior-level physical and / or biophysical chemistry courses.
- Prepare and deliver effective chemistry curriculum using various interactive teaching methods and instructional technology.
- Establish an independent, innovative research program while seeking external funding to enhance the growth of the Chemistry Program.
- Publish findings from scholarly activities in professional journals.
- Participate in the ongoing curriculum development and assessment of the Chemistry program.
- Participate in professional development training on ongoing basis and keep abreast of discipline-related trends in teaching and research.
- Advise and mentor students in the Chemistry Program.
- Participate in program, department, college and university service activities.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry with concentration in Physical Chemistry, or related sub-disciplines.
- Minimum of 1 year teaching experience at the college / university level, preferably in a minority serving institution.
- Evidence of scholarly publications and presentations at discipline-related conferences and meetings.
- Demonstrated evidence of the ability to work collaboratively on research projects as well as serving on program, department and University- wide committees.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications :
- An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
- At least three years of full-time teaching experience, including two years in an institution of higher education.
Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
