JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, collects, prepares and performs routine analyses on finished, environmental, geochemical, industrial, petrochemical, wastewater and metallurgical samples for both biological and chemical components.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
1.Ability to collect raw water, finished water, environmental, geochemical, industrial, petrochemical, wastewater and metallurgical samples as well as other constituents, as directed.
2.Ability to respond to water quality complaints with superior customer service skills and discuss general water quality issues with customers.
3.Ability to self-schedule sampling routes and track sample quantities to meet departmental goals and objectives with respect to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) sample regulations.
4.Ability to work in the laboratory to complete recurrent laboratory support functions such as washing laboratory glassware, general housekeeping, taking inventory, calibrating meters, etc.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :
5.Ability to safely drive throughout the City of Arlington and surrounding areas.
6.Ability to write legibly and provide concise sample collection information including completing chain-of-custody forms.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS :
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities Required :
- Knowledge of chemical and biological laboratory procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and maintenance.
- Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, sorting, holding, carrying, squatting, and writing.
- Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to PC, pH meter, burets, spectrophotometer, and other lab instruments.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to keep accurate detailed records and organize workload effectively.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other city employees and the public.
- Ability to respond as necessary to emergency situations requiring immediate sampling and analysis of unknown materials.
- Incumbent is subject to dust / mites, fume / odor, chemical, mechanical, electrical, radiation, explosives and biological hazards.
QualifyingEducation and Experience :
High SchoolDiploma or a GED is required. TCEQ Class D Water License is requiredwithin first 6 months of employment. An offer of employment is contingentupon successful completion of the following : CriminalBackground Check, Drug and Alcohol Testing, Physical Examination, andMotor Vehicle Review.
