Job Description
Fulfils patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include performing venipuncture and / or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow;
accompanying patients to exam / procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc.
Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver patient care in line with Beth Israel Medical Group's philosophy. Perform EKGs, lab tests, PFTs, and audiometry as ordered by the physician.
Admit patients to the exam room, taking vital signs, medical history, medication history, and allergy history; measure height and weight as indicated.
Perform quality controls and adhere to laboratory procedures as required by CLIA regulations.
Complete and forward patient referrals appropriately.
Document treatments and telephone contacts with patients.
Maintain the lab accession log and outside medical testing log as per established procedures.
Document daily checks (e.g., oxygen, emergency box) as assigned.
Adhere to universal precautions and OSHA regulations.
Maintain clean and orderly examination rooms and medical areas.
Stock examination rooms with supplies and check supplies from vendors against packing slips.
Put supplies away as assigned.
Maintain professionalism at all times, greeting patients and visitors promptly and courteously.
Register and transact patients using the current computer system, updating pertinent patient information including medical insurance coverage and eligibility.
Ensure all patient names appear on daily ledger sheets.
Schedule patient appointments, retrieve and file medical reports / lab results.
Maintain patient waiting room and front desk area.
Process HMO referrals as requested by Physician, Practice Management, and patients
Communicate patient emergencies to the Physician.
Answer telephones with the name and location of Beth Israel Medical Group, taking messages to ensure follow-up on all calls.
File and maintain file units, balance ledger sheets, and account for all monies received.
Manage the cash box, notifying the Office Administrator or Reimbursement / Front Office Coordinator when change is needed.
Display a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude when dealing with patients, staff, families, and significant others.
Show courtesy, tact, and patience with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
Ensure personalized, prompt attention for all patients and visitors, treating them with dignity and respect.
Provide discharge instructions to patients as per physician's instructions and sign the superbill as per discharge procedure.
Notify patients of test results via telephone following physician review and instruction, documenting the communication.
Requirements
Certification as a Medical Assistant or two years of relevant work experience preferred.
Excellent phone manners, flexibility, knowledge of computer data entry, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle diversified responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
High school diploma or GED.
BLS certification.
Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or two years of experience working as a medical assistant.
