Role Overview :
The Strategic Foresight Analysis and Defense Planning Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring NATO’s preparedness for future challenges by conducting in-depth foresight analysis and integrating these insights into the Alliance's defense planning processes.
This position supports the development of long-term strategies that align with NATO's mission and enhance the Alliance's ability to anticipate and respond to emerging security threats.
Key Responsibilities :
Strategic Foresight Analysis : Conduct detailed analyses of global trends, including geopolitical shifts, technological advancements, and evolving security threats, to inform NATO’s long-term strategic direction.
Utilize foresight methodologies to identify potential future scenarios and their implications for NATO.
- Defense Planning Integration : Translate foresight insights into actionable defense planning recommendations. Ensure that strategic foresight is fully integrated into NATO’s defense planning process, including capability development and resource allocation.
- Scenario Development : Develop and refine scenarios that simulate future security environments. Use these scenarios to test NATO’s current and planned capabilities, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaboration and Networking : Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including NATO member states, partner nations, and international organizations, to ensure that foresight analysis is comprehensive and aligned with broader strategic goals.
- Policy Development Support : Provide strategic advice to senior NATO leadership on policy and strategy development, ensuring that decisions are informed by robust foresight analysis.
- Reporting and Documentation : Prepare high-level reports, briefings, and presentations that communicate foresight analysis findings and their implications for defense planning to NATO leadership and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications :
Education : A bachelor’s or master’s degree in international relations, strategic studies, defense planning, or a related field.
Advanced degrees in foresight or strategic planning are highly desirable.
Experience : At least 5 years of experience in strategic analysis, foresight, or defense planning, preferably within an international or defense organization.
Experience with NATO or similar multinational organizations is advantageous.
- Technical Skills : Proficiency in strategic foresight methodologies, scenario planning, and data analysis tools. Familiarity with NATO’s defense planning processes is essential.
- Soft Skills : Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Clearance : A current SECRET security clearance is required.
