Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for patients of all ages. Functions in a structured care setting and adheres to the policies and procedures established by Sanford.
Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the patient in the relevant clinical setting and possess the ability to perform testing to assess data reflective of the patient's status and to interpret appropriately the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for nursing to provide patient care and treatment. Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure.
The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Qualifications
Completion of LPN program at state board approved school.
Commensurate with knowledge taught in an approved LPN education program and verified by LPN licensure. Must complete Continuing Education as required by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.
Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with Minnesota State Nursing board. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
