Carter G. Woodson School is a non-profit charter school in Winston-Salem, N.C. We serve 500 students from grades K 12 each year and support over 80+ staff.
We are seeking an EC Teacher to provide special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Work involves developing and implementing the Individual Education Program (IEP) in classroom settings that are compatible with the student’s age and developmental level.
Also responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials and designing activities to ensure EC students develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills to meet their IEP goals.
The teacher is responsible for monitoring the student’s progress and maintaining EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
The desired candidate for this position exercises responsible leadership and communicates in a professional and positive manner at all times with parents, staff, students, school officials, and any other individual they may come in contact with.
Responsibilities :
- Development of the IEP for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
- Develops and implement an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the student’s IEP.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
- Monitors student behavior; maintain discipline in the classroom; deescalate inappropriate behaviors; teach students appropriate behavioral strategies.
- Maintains student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities;
and complies with state and federal education statutes.
- Monitors students’ progress regularly to ensure evidence of growth.
- Communicates with parents and guardians regarding their child’s educational progress.
- Works closely with parents and guardians to promote positive behavioral support and a respectful yet nurturing learning environment.
- Maintains student records and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines; assists with compiling compliance data.
- Reports to designated EC Administrator regularly.
- Consults and collaborates with school personnel and provides support in creating a professional learning community.
- Provides instruction in content areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics.
- Provides and supports classroom modifications and intervention strategies.
- Be able to maneuver ECATS.
- Has knowledge of due process rights and procedures.
- Schedules and conducts IEP meetings.
- Acts as LEA representative, as needed.
- Attends regional meetings, as needed.
- Responds to calls and correspondence regarding all programs and services offered by the EC Department.
- Performs other related work as required by supervisor to support the department.
- Complies with all school rules and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality and does not share information with unnecessary personnel.
Job Type :
Full-time; on campus.
Qualifications and Requirements :
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
- Teaching experience 1 year minimum.
- Special education experience 1 year minimum.
- Must be flexible and willing to work closely with the general education teachers in line with the Inclusion Model.
- Must be reliable, proficient, and conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
License / Certification :
- Teaching certification (required)
- Special education certification (required)
Compensation :
Commensurate with experience.
