Details :

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides routine care for patients who present to New Horizon Family Health Services. The Medical Assistant aids the Nursing Personnel and Providers as necessary.

Education :

Source : S.C. Code section 40-33-20, section 4A of the 1976 Code (Act 171, 2022)

Must be a graduate :

• of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcareer Association, or its successor;
• by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or its successor;
• by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or its successor;
• or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

The accredited post-secondary medical assisting program must include :

courses in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical laboratory techniques, and clinical experience.

Licensure / Certification :

A Medical Assistant must maintain current certification from the certifying board of the :

• American Association of Medical Assistants,
• the National Center for Competency Testing,
• the National Certification Medical Association,
• American Medical Technologists, or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board of Medical Examiners.
• Must be BLS CPR certified.

Knowledge and Skills :

• One year or more experience in medical office based patient care setting
• Must have a working knowledge of computer programs and electronic health records
• Must demonstrate legible handwriting and excellent spelling.
• The ability to accept responsibility and to be a motivated and enthusiastic learner
• Demonstrates courteous and tactful manner
• The ability to work under stress and work well with others
