Position Overview :
The Senior Associate Scientist, Cell and In Vitro Sciences, will perform cell culture and in vitro assays in support of preclinical research in the Needham Discovery Lab.
This position will have a major role in supporting oncology research with opportunities to support research in immunology, cell biology, and microbiology.
Responsibilities :
- Independently perform tasks related to cell culture, including expansion, passaging, assessing viability, preparing cells for inoculation into mice, preparing aliquots for storage or shipment.
- With some supervision, analyze in vitro and in vivo cell behavior, troubleshoot abnormal findings, and optimize cell culture and inoculation conditions.
- Perform in vitro assays, including immunoreactive fraction and cell binding assays; with supervision, develop and optimize novel in vitro assays.
- Execute radiolabeling cells and isolating cells from blood and tissues from established protocols; with supervision, develop and optimize methods for radiolabeling cells and cell isolation.
- Communicate with internal scientists regarding the status of cell culture and in vitro assays.
Qualifications :
- B.S. or M.S. in Biology or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in mammalian cell culture required.
- 1-2 years of experience working with mouse and human tumor cell lines preferred.
- Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, ELISA, Western blot) preferred.
- Experience working with radioactivity desired.
Additional Requirements :
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Working with biohazardous materials up to NIH Risk Group 3 and biocontainment up to BSL-2 required.
- Working with radiation required.
