POSITION SUMMARY : Directs the daily routine functioning of the nursing staff by assuring the overall supervision of all nursing personnel concerned with resident care and ensuring compliance with all federal, state and facility regulations, policies, and procedures.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS - Education / Experience
Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Massachusetts.
Minimum of three years additional education or experience in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing and one year of nursing services administration.
CPR certified.
Understands responsibilities concerning infection control, safety, accident and fire prevention.
Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Fluent knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment.
Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.
Working Conditions : Works in an appropriately lighted and ventilated environment.
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics / equipment that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses (RN / LPN) in effectively accomplishing their duties.
Acts as liaison between Director of Nursing Services and Unit Managers / RN Supervisors / Charge Nurses (RN / LPN).
Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
Ensures that nursing services staffing needs and schedules are met.
Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
Responsible for ordering and receiving medications for the emergency drug box and oversees narcotic control and destruction.
Assumes all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services in his / her absence.
Oversees disciplinary actions in conjunction with RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses (RN / LPN).
Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
Tracks rehospitalization rates and identifies areas for education.
Serves as the Wound Care Nurse and / or resource for wound care (facility specific).
Conducts case reviews on hospital readmissions.
Oversees the Quality Assurance Program for the Nursing Department. Assists in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and interpreting the facility's goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Understands and upholds the Resident’s Bill of Rights and holds all resident information confidential.
Performs other related duties and attends meetings as may be deemed necessary by the Administrator and / or Director of Nursing
Position does include the weekend nursing on call program and Manager of Duty weekday program.
