Safety & Compliance Manager Opportunity :

PURPOSE of the role :

The Director of Transportation Safety is responsible for the overall management and accountability of the safety department.

This will be accomplished by setting achievable goals and expectations while building a team culture that promotes safety success by advising both drivers and upper management.

The primary goals of the safety department are to provide leadership and accountability on all safety and compliance performance issues, recruiting and training drivers, helping further inter-departmental relationships with clear communication channels, improving loss conditions, and assisting in all claims management and continued employee training in the organization.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train & skill all under your supervision in commercial transportation accident prevention
  • Monitor hours of service, safety performance, and CSA compliance
  • Oversee insurance management issues and claims management.
  • Ensure all drivers complete the mandatory safety training sessions.
  • Actively recruiting company drivers and owner operators.
  • Coordinating and reviewing pre-hire and contract qualifications.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage systems of driver qualifications and medical certification files.
  • Collaborate with support staff in auditing of hours of service (driver logs).
  • Conduct ongoing training for safety related issues.
  • Maintain company database to ensure accuracy of compliance related expirations.
  • Strategic planning and forecasting transportation trends
  • Driver performance management
  • Reward and discipline employees.

Skill Set Needed :

  • 3-5 years in previous experience in a current safety management role
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of detail
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Previous log auditing and training experience
  • Strong decision-making & problem-solving skills with independent decision-making ability
