  • As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of small and large laser, pulsed power, vacuum vessel, and ancillary systems;
  • vacuum and pressure vessel / component design, facilities modifications and design, hardware procurement support, overseeing assembly, testing, and operation of the above components / subsystems / systems integral to the pulsed power driven rare-gas / halide (excimer) lasers being developed for IFE power generation;

initially for Xcimer prototype systems, and continuing through the design and demonstration of a power-producing IFE reactor.

Responsibilities

  • Pressure vessel / component and vacuum vessel certifications, over-tests, to prevailing code standards.
  • Communicate and interact with mechanical, laser, and optical engineering members of the design team.
  • Follow the design of the prototype system and subsystems through Preliminary and Final Designs.
  • Support procurement of the hardware for the prototype laser amplifiers and optical conditioning equipment.
  • Oversee and assist assembly by a team of interdisciplinary technicians.
  • Support shake-down and testing of the laser amplifiers, optical conditioning, and ancillary systems.
  • Support ongoing operation of the subject equipment / systems.
  • Continue above roles and responsibilities to participate in subsequent amplifier up-scaling leading to that which is needed for a power-producing IFE reactor.
  • Participate in concept studies supporting the use of these lasers in a power-producing IFE reactor and other applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent work experience in facilities engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in facilities engineering, with a focus on electrical, HVAC, and process utilities such as compressed dry air (CDA), chilled water, and oil.
  • Experience overseeing complex construction or renovation projects, managing contractors, and adhering to budgets and timelines.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including experience with electrical distribution networks including load balancing, fault detection, and system optimization.

Exposure to high-voltage pulsed power systems a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly with mechanical and electrical systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Solidworks, Creo, Catia, etc.)
  • Complex integrated system design experience (pulsed power, laser, opto-mechanical, fusion energy, aerospace, defense, etc.)
  • Interdisciplinary experience a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.

S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Licensed Professional Engineer (LPE)

$110,000 - $180,000 a yearCandidates may be considered for other positions at Xcimer Energy, and our actual base salary will be determined on an individual basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

The range is published in accordance with Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and California Equal Pay Act.
