Position Summary :

The Director of Volunteer Services leads the Volunteer Services team and is responsible for meeting Connecticut Foodshare's ongoing need for volunteers to effectively carry out the organization's mission in the community.

This role is responsible for the ongoing administration and coordination of the volunteer program including recruitment, placement.

and recognition of volunteers. The role works in cooperation with all departments in support of Connecticut Foodshare's mission and strategic goals.

Reports to the Chief Operations Officer.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities :

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Expands and deepens relationships with organizations already involved with Connecticut Foodshare to encourage greater volunteer engagement.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer staff with a focus on employee development and succession planning.
  • Intentionally promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and builds a positive work culture and environment.
  • Develops new relationships with businesses, schools, civic, religious organizations etc. in order to identify additional sources of volunteers and coordinates efforts with development staff.
  • Ensures a rewarding volunteer experience, including providing an orientation to Connecticut Foodshare, its mission, and the issue of hunger.
  • Works with staff to identify meaningful work for volunteers that support the needs and goals of the organization and engages volunteers.
  • Provides volunteer support for special events, including organizing and managing the volunteer room function for major events.
  • Implements a comprehensive volunteer appreciation program, including regular and on-going recognition of volunteers.
  • Develops, administers, and reviews policies and procedures that guide the volunteer program as well as forms and records to accurately reflect volunteer activities.
  • Develops and implements volunteer program goals and objectives that align with Connecticut Foodshare's priorities.
  • Continuously evaluates all aspects of the volunteer program to ensure effectiveness and to recommend / implement changes as appropriate.
  • Serves as a point of contact to help resolve issues and grievances related to volunteers.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring the budget for volunteer program expenses.
  • Supports staff in supervision, proper training, evaluation, and recognition of volunteers, including providing training to appropriate staff in use of Volunteer Hub.
  • Supports the Volunteer Advisory Committee.
  • Manages, updates, and troubleshoots Volunteer Hub scheduling software.
  • Accurately enters required volunteer information into enterprise data systems in a timely manner and ensures the integrity of all volunteer data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

Minimum Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field with 3 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment OR 7 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or related field with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in similar or related function OR 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in similar or related function.
  • 2 years of management experience.
  • Experience in volunteer management.
  • Experience with volunteer database systems.
