Position Summary : The primary role of the Director of Student Ministries is to lead an increasing number of students within our congregation and the surrounding community into a deepened relationship with Christ, with one another, and Christ’s work in the world.
In addition, the Director will provide leadership over the ministry engaging and equipping volunteers to minister to students.
The Director will be an advocate for students and will educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of students in the church and the community, while building relationships between generations and integrating students into all aspects of the church body.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities :
- Serve as a team member within the Student Ministry staff, developing programming and events for fifth through twelfth grade students to grow their faith and commitment to Christ. Task may include :
- identifying or developing curriculum and topics relevant to students
- leading Bible studies or small groups
- engaging students in service opportunities both within and outside the church
- building relationships with students outside the regular church activities such as sporting or student focused events.
- Recruit, train and disciple / mentor volunteers to effectively minister to students
- Identify, plan and execute mission and retreat opportunities for the students.
- Engage and equip parents; keeping them informed of all on-going activities, ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
- Assist in the development and oversight of the Student Ministry budget.
- Work with the larger Family Life department and the church staff, attending staff meetings and supporting other ministry areas as needed.
- Spend time in the community for the purpose of developing relationships with students and families outside of the Christian faith.
Required Skills and Abilities :
- A passion for seeing students develop a stronger faith and a deeper walk with Jesus
- Gift of teaching following the reformed / evangelical tradition, Biblical care and leading through discipleship
- A desire to know and follow Christ more as evidenced with a vibrant prayer and devotional life
- Be an effective, creative and dynamic communicator in both small groups and larger audiences
- Social media savvy with the ability to utilize the mediums for connecting with students
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required depending upon experience
- 1-3 years’ experience in Student Ministry with an emphasis on planning and discipling / mentoring students
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that can include evenings and weekends
- Satisfactory background check required for all positions
Physical Requirements :
- Able to lift 20 pounds
- Able to drive
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with all staff, church leadership, members of the congregation, and volunteers
- Able to sit and stand for long periods of time
