JOB SUMMARY
The Research Associate or Senior Research Associate will support Excellos’ research and development efforts by assisting with development, testing, and validating workflows of new cell isolation processes and products and translating findings into commercial processes.
This position will work closely with our Research and Development team and be responsible for performing essential laboratory functions, maintaining department records, reports, and statistical data.
The Research Associate or Sr. Research Associate will participate in departmental meetings, educational programs, and will cross-train within adjacent departments as assigned.
With the experience and expertise of the Sr. Research Associate, this position will use their judgment and expertise to work on a wide variety of research and development activities, including data analysis, evaluation, and recommendations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform procedures required to isolate, culture, cryopreserve, thaw, and analyze cell products.
- Carry out aseptic tissue culture and bioproduct manipulations in biosafety cabinets.
- Carry out in vitro cell-based assays, including proliferation, effector cell, and cell killing assays.
- Perform calculations to determine cell viability, dilutions, and cell concentrations.
- Assist with cell analysis techniques, including metabolic, effector, and FACS-based assays.
- Perform procedures and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with Excellos quality plan and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Assist in the development and validation of new laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Oversee the routine maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
- Maintain supply inventory levels, orders laboratory reagents and supplies as needed.
- Maintain comprehensive cell assay and processing records.
- Work under minimal supervision. Attend to details, investigate, review, and troubleshoot problems independently.
- Provide regular updates, data, and applicable documentation for project teams.
- Cross-train to assist with ordering and receiving of specimens, client support to confirm orders, and schedule courier pickups.
- Handle inventory and prepare cellular products and relevant documentation for shipment to customers.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Works primarily in a laboratory environment with biohazard precautions.
- May be exposed to blood or bodily fluids that may be capable of transmitting diseases.
- May be exposed to chemicals that may be hazardous.
- May be called on to work or attend meetings at other than routinely scheduled hours.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to stand or sit for long hours.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory benchtop environment 4 - 8 hours a day.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
- May be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
EQUIPMENT USED
- General Laboratory equipment (examples include but are not limited to : centrifuges, heat sealer, sterile docking device, refrigerators / freezers, sterile hood, cell counter)
- Laboratory Information Management Systems software
QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or similar field of study required.
- Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, or similar field of study preferred.
Experience :
- 5+ years of experience working in a research laboratory required, or equivalent combination of education and experience with working knowledge of basic cell biology procedures.
- Previous experience with mammalian tissue culture and sterile technique and human biospecimens and cell lines.
- In vitro cell growth assay experience preferred.
- Experience with FACS-based assays preferred.
