We are searching for a Registered Nurse for our 15WT Med / Surg Unit - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting.15 WT is a 36-bed med / surge unit;
which provides care for pediatric patients under PHM (Pediatric Hospital Medicine). Patients under the care of PHM are typically healthy patients that require hospitalization usually due to an acute event, i.
e. status asthmaticus, cellulitis, bronchiolitis. Patient age ranges from a few days old to teenagers and young adults. Developmental ages vary by patient.
Complex care patients (multiple comorbidities) and behavioral health patients are other patient populations that are under the PHM service.
Our patient length-of-stay is around 2.5 days.Think you've got what it takes?Requirements : * Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required* Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification with American Heart Association are required* One (1) year of professional nursing experience* The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills* Demonstrate good time and resource management skills* Demonstrate flexibility* Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills* Operate unit specific equipment* Able to work nights* Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaborationAs part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Responsibilities : * Performs and documents assessment of the patient / family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental ( age - appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status* Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition;
communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.* Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and / or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record* Assists patients / family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate* Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.
- Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients / families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.
- Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.* Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
