Group Exercise Instructor - Kirk Family YMCA

Part of a team responsible for the preparation, planning, and delivery of group exercise fitness classes. JOB FUNCTIONS Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.

Support branch / department initiatives related to membership retention and Annual Giving goals.Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.

Assist in the marketing of group exercise and related programs.Provide appropriate instruction on proper form and exercise techniques.

Teach fitness class from a plan consistent with established format.Encourage YMCA members to meet their own determined wellness goals through regular contact, incentive programs and relationship development.

Begin and end classes on time.Direct movement in a clear, loud voice, making adaptations for participants of varying fitness levels.

Maintain all group exercise equipment.Check the facility for safety and cleanliness. Report all problems to supervising Coordinator or Director, and ensure the facility is left in good condition upon conclusion of session.

Maintain certifications as required by the position.ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. ACCOUNTABILITY Responsible for the success of the group exercise programs in accordance with the goals of the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge.

Reports directly to the Wellness Directorand keeps him / her informed of plans, progress, and problems. Accountable for assisting management with the delivery and marketing of fitness class programming.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES Experience preferred.Years of experience should be accompanied by appropriate evaluations and demonstration of high level of job performance in teaching group exercise.

Qualified to teach and teaching a minimum of one class format.Must hold and maintain : Current CPR certificationCurrent AED certificationCurrent, nationally recognized group exercise certificationCurrent specialty class certification PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to recognize and respond to unsafe situations.

Demonstrate and assist with exercises. May be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for long periods of time.

Rigorous physical activity up to 1.5 hours required. Must be able to lead exercises while verbally cueing instructions and movement changes.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS As we continue to progress in our quest for excellent customer / member service and relationship building, the focus on staff performance is critical.

A significant part of all job performance will be related to the specific behavior that staff are to exhibit on a daily basis.
