Modern Manufacturing is looking for a SolidWorks / CAD Designer to join the Engineering Team at our manufacturing facility located in Eudora, KS .

The SolidWorks / CAD Designer will collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, Project Managers and the Engineering team designing crossing cantilevers, enclosures, signal bridge structures, signal lights, signal masts and wayside cantilevers for the rail industry.

This SolidWorks / CAD Designer will have the opportunity to advance their technical skills to support the growth of the Eudora location and progress their career as they grow within Modern Manufacturing.

Primary Responsibilities :

• Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for and not limited to railroad wayside structures, Bungalows, Signal Bridges, Cantilevers, MLPs, sheet metal design, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment (preferably SolidWorks).
• Layout and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
• Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
• Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
• Modify and revise designs to correct deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
• Layout, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals.

Qualifications :

• Considerable skill in the design and preparation of CAD models, drawings and specifications.
• Sheetmetal design environment experience.
• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and design.
• Knowledge of the basic principles, methods, and practices involved in sheet metal & industrial design.
• Knowledge of fabrication equipment and materials.
• Knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of mechanical drafting to ASME Standards.
• Ability to prepare designs and specifications for material and equipment needs of the customer.
• Ability to prepare complex CAD models and drawings from rough sketches, data, and oral instructions.
• Ability to understand and efficiently carry out complex written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members.

Preferred Education & Experience :

• Previous rail industry experience is a plus!
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One year of engineering related experience supporting heavy manufacturing.
• Preferably two years of experience with SolidWorks. CSWA, CSWP, or other SolidWorks Certifications are a bonus.
• Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Word / Excel / Outlook.
• Must be an energetic self-starter and have a strong sense of urgency; and capable of following tasks through to completion.
• Course work in CAD drafting or any equivalent combination of training and experience. plus!

• This position requires walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
• Fast paced environment
• Exposure to potential hazards, therefore, protective clothing and equipment required such as steel toe safety boots or shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection.
• This position will spend a percentage of time working in a shop environment where tools and other machinery are used.
