Position Summary

We are looking for a professional Instructional Designer to design and develop learning and practicing experiences. The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

The Instructional Designer will initially focus on Oceaneering's Mobile Robotics business segment and may support other business segments over the long term.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
  • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience's training needs.
  • State instructional end goals and create content that matches them.
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product.
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods.
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
  • Create supporting material / media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.).
  • Decide on the criteria used to judge learner's performance and develop assessment instruments.
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management. System.
  • Visual design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard.
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts / video scripts.
  • BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology, or equivalent experience (5 yrs. plus).

DESIRABLE

  • Basic HTML and Adobe Animate programming knowledge.
  • Knowledge of video editing using Adobe Premiere and / or After Effects.
  • Exposure to, or knowledge of competency systems and development.
  • Experience with SumTotal is a real plus but not essential.
  • Use of Articulate storyline 3 or 360 and Adobe Captivate as e-learning development tools.

o Comprehend technical content in terms of the entire course content and individual lessons.

o Assess frequency, criticality, difficulty and complexity of knowledge and skills contained in curricula to accommodate target audience learning styles.

o Identify prerequisite knowledge and skills for tasks, subtasks, and knowledge.

Write criterion-referenced, performance-based objectives.

o State an objective in performance terms that reflect the intent of instruction.

o Sequence the objectives to reflect the curriculum design.

o Describe the relationship between the objectives, technical content, and performance measurement.

Select instructional media.

o Identify instructional media options that address training needs.

o Describe characteristics of instructional media.

o Evaluate candidate training system hardware and software capabilities and limitations.

o Conduct a cost-benefit analysis to determine cost-effectiveness of instructional media options that support objectives within imposed constraints.

o Recommend instructional media that provides utility and probability across and within each unit of instruction.

Recommend instructional strategies.

o Discuss learning theories, instructional design strategies, instructional psychology, and learning styles appropriate to the curricular objectives.

o Describe and provide a rationale for the selection of an instructional approach.

o Design instructional materials that are appropriate to the ability level of the learners.

Develop performance measurement instruments.

o Develop performance measures : criterion-referenced achievement tests, questionnaires, interviews, simulation scenarios, observation checklists, performance checklists, product checklists.

o Identify variables to measure and construct assessment items appropriate to the associated objective.

o Judge the validity and reliability of instruction based on statistical results.

o State the rationale for using one type of assessment tool over another.

Develop training program materials.

o Develop media materials that are linked to and within the hardware / software constraints, are consistent across and between lessons, and clearly communicate information.

o Develop flowcharts to identify learning events at the frame specific level using standardized symbology.

o Develop storyboards using a template appropriate to the needs of the project to.

o Enter data that clearly communicates what will be developed and presented to the user.

o Select and construct appropriate interactions and user control techniques.

o Write scripts that include Introductions, body, transitions, and summary in conversational, active voice to match comprehension level of target audience.

o Consistent use of tense, grammar, terminology that is interesting and varied.

o Use a variety of authoring and / or software applications packages.

o Develop audiovisual display designs that include screen layouts and human-machine interfaces.

o Develop course support materials and documentation.

o Perform debug procedures to identify inconsistencies and discrepancies.

o Understand video production / postproduction procedures.

o Understand the relationship between storyboard production and courseware production.

Prepare end-users for implementation of courseware materials.

o Train instructors on how to present courseware to students.

o Provide guidance to users on hardware, software, and courseware.

Evaluate instruction, program, and process.

o Develop a formative / summative evaluation plan and conduct the formative / summative evaluation.

o Generate specifications for revisions based on feedback collected during evaluation.
