Position Overview :
A pioneer in the social entrepreneurship movement.
The Nurse Practitioner will be working in a primary care setting serving the under served population.
Essential Functions :
- Secure and assess health and developmental history.
- Perform comprehensive Pediatric / Adolescent appraisal; including physical nutritional assessment and developmental evaluations / discriminate normal form abnormal findings and know when to refer to physician.
- Plan and implement routine immunizations.
- Assess and manage common illnesses and accidents of adolescents.
- Prescribe and regulate medications.
- Order and interpret lab studies.
- Provide guidance and education considering common problems of children / adolescents, and preventive measures for maintenance and improvement of health.
- Provide on-site school-based coordination of services.
- Provide guidance and direction to school-based health aides.
- Identify and utilize community resources.
- Work collaboratively with physician preceptor in planning for patient care, and make referrals as indicated.
- Prepare and periodically review medical protocols for pediatric / adolescent health care.
- Maintain proper record keeping systems; maintain all forms requested by Ryan and the New York City and New York State Department of Health.
- In addition to the application of the common principles enumerated in the Pediatric role, the Nurse Practitioner will have knowledge of GYN care including the following :
- Provide counseling about available contraceptive care and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide primary health care to patients in the other clinical areas if eligible and as assigned.
- Participate in Peer Review sessions / audits and other Quality Improvement activities.
- Be available and accessible when assigned to 24-hour telephone coverage.
- Immediately report any problems / unusual occurrences to the supervisor.
- Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with OSHA Bloodborne pathogens standards and Center policies and procedures.
- Attend all meetings and / or training sessions as required.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Skills Required :
- Primary care clinic experience
- Experience with persons with HIV / AIDS, histories of substance use and / or mental illness a plus.
- Experience working in a setting that promotes interdisciplinary care planning.
Education, Licenses, and / or Skills Required :
- Masters' Degree in Nursing
- Nurse Practitioner
- Current New York State License
- Board Certification
Preferred Qualifications :
Bilingual Spanish / English
