Job Title : Special Education Teacher
Job Summary : We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs and will work to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment.
The Special Education Teacher will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborate with other educators, and foster academic and personal growth in students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff members to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
- Monitor and assess student progress, making adjustments to instructional strategies as needed.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders about student progress and any concerns.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development activities.
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
- Implement effective behavior management strategies and interventions as necessary.
- Stay informed about current best practices in special education and comply with state and federal regulations.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional / behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Knowledge of Illinois special education laws and regulations, including IDEA.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress.
- Experience with assistive technology and other tools to support student learning is a plus.
Certifications and Licensure :
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Special Education.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred).
Working Conditions :
- The position is primarily based in a classroom setting.
- May involve working with students who have physical or emotional challenges.
- Occasional travel for meetings, professional development, and home visits may be required.
