The K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace.

Our team consults with business and industry, and with policy makers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners.

YTI contributes to developing inclusive workplace systems and communities in a variety of ways.

The Opportunity

This position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University, working a hybrid campus to home schedule, or can be based remotely.

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Project Manager position in the K.

Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension / Outreach Division.

This position will serve as the USDOL-ODEP funded National Employer Policy, Research and TA Center (Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion / EARN) project manager within the Yang-Tan Institute.

The project manager will work closely with the initiative's leaders at Cornell and the funder on federally sponsored grant.

The project manager will provide operational leadership and serve as the point person for the highly complex project.

This is a term, full-time, position with initial appointment through September 30, 2028. Position may be reappointed with approval based on available funding and work.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking people who appreciate and will take ownership in the following, including and not limited to :

  • Managing relationships with federal funder and stakeholders
  • Overseeing staff effort and internal resources
  • Managing federally funded project progress and adapting work plan as required
  • Ensure quality assurance of all center deliverables and events
  • Overseeing financial and budget matters
  • Leading project planning sessions
  • Writing of relevant grant reporting
  • Coordinating with internal and external partners, advisors, and consultants
  • Creating and maintaining strategic plan in collaboration with Principal Investigator (PI)

Success Factors

You are considered a top candidate if you have :

  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Experience managing large federally sponsored projects / grants
  • Understanding of business and financial issues
  • Outstanding communication and problem-solving skills.

We require these qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree and five or more years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Experience with team and project management, particularly in multi-disciplinary and hybrid office settings with geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience effectively building a team that includes subgrantees, delegating work to appropriate subject matter experts, and managing team members and subgrantees to achieve high quality work
  • The ability to take ownership / responsibility, meet deadlines, initiate prompt action and complete projects in a timely fashion is required
  • Working knowledge of project management software and project management best practices
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Works independently with the ability to take initiative
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, detail-oriented
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand, broadly interpret, and apply relevant departmental, College, and University policies as needed are essential to the role

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree related to workplace and employment practice, such as business, management, employment policy, diversity and inclusion, human resources, organizational behavior, industrial-organizational psychology, workforce development, etc.
  • Minimum five to seven years of experience in managing large federally funded projects of $5 million dollars or more, budget, sub-contractor and team management experience, demonstrated ability to write reports, etc.
  • Experience working with external funders
  • Experience in a leadership or administrative capacity, preferably but not limited to a university research group, department, or center
  • Knowledge of various disability-related programs
  • Familiarity with grant management
  • Knowledge of Cornell systems, policies and procedures
