General Summary : This position performs highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with electrical systems.
Electrical work may be performed in a number of areas including heating, refrigeration, motors, fire alarms, and generator equipment to ensure the safety and efficiency of all electrical equipment with Audubon Zoo and Park.
To deliver on the Audubon mission, the Electrician will :
Provide a guest experience of outstanding quality
- Make daily rounds to ensure proper operation of all equipment.
- Make any electrical repairs needed to exhibits throughout both the Zoo and Park.
- Responsible for repairs, preventative maintenance and record keeping of all lighting systems throughout both the Zoo and Park.
- Responsible for the installation and maintenance of any special in-house projects, including construction of new systems or exhibits.
- Respond to all assigned work requests in a timely manner.
- Assist Pumps department as requested by Director of Facilities.
- Must be willing to take continuing education courses as deemed necessary.
- Must attend all mandatory safety trainings.
- Must adhere to all regulations regarding animal safety and care.
- Must be available to work weekends as needed.
- Must be on call at all times when not on property .

- Walk individual to destination instead of pointing; offer assistance to people who look confused.

- Keep unpleasant concerns behind closed doors (vent backstage).
Supervision : Electrician assistants, contractors and vendors
Experience : Minimum of five years experience as a certified electrician.
Education : High school diploma
Licensure / Certification : Must hold a class D certification. Class A certification preferred, and must be obtained within the one year of employment.
Software Requirements : proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Outlook
Machinery / Tools / Equipment Requirements : Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone and copy machine.
Forklift, insulator tester, amp probe, and voltage finder knowledge preferred.
Physical Requirements :
- Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Sitting or standing, bending, stooping, and the ability to carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Constant adequate range of motion and mobility required.
- Regular near acuity with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less required.
- Typical ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions and ability to determine the time, place and sequence of operations or actions required.
- Regular talking and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of language expected.
- Regular hearing and the ability to perceive the nature of sounds.
- Constant ability to read, record, or type data quickly and accurately required.
Environmental / Working Conditions :
- Working long hours between breaks or meals required.
- Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner required.
- May be exposed to high, medium, or low noise intensity.
- Constant contact with co-workers required.
- Affinity for animals preferred.
- Exposure to fluctuations in temperatures may be required.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions may be required.
