Make the Road States (MRstates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella.
From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large.
Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state.
We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.
Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color.
MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.
Current Opening :
Based in one of the following towns, Boulder City, Carson, Dayton, Elko, Laughlin, Mesquite, Pahrump, West Wendover, and Winnemucca, the Outreach Organizer will engage with people around issues they care about the most.
They will conduct community engagement and outreach activities that include but are not limited to hosting house parties, knocking on doors, making phone calls, sending out SMS messages, and sharing accurate information via social media.
Outreach efforts may also include tabling at community events and promoting the organization, community based participatory research, community needs assessments, and survey collection.
Organize listening sessions as well as identifying supporters and potential members for MRNV / MRA-NV.
Rural Outreach Organizers will also receive training on the ongoing issue based campaigns MRNV / MRA-NV are conducting in order to provide accurate and helpful resources to the community.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to :
- Organize on the ground in diverse communities and with young voters
- Develop and foster a relationship with the community directly, understand and encourage increased civic participation
- Representing the organization positively to the community, answering questions connecting them to designated organizers
- Meet assigned goals associated with each metric on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Report daily to the Rural Organizing Manager on quantitative and qualitative metrics, ensuring timely and accurate data entry and reporting.
- Attend daily, and weekly scheduled calls and meetings.
- Attend trainings that will include community engagement tactics, program strategy and safety.
- Door-to-door canvassing is an essential function of this job which includes at least 10 hours of walking on a weekly basis
- Conduct phone banking and send SMS messages as part of the outreach program
- Sharing accurate and reliable information and resources on social media
- Hosting house parties to recruit members and supporters of MRNV / MRA-NV and our issue priorities
Requirements :
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.

- An effective and frequent communicator, both written and verbal.
- Meet deadlines by managing time and prioritize tasks as needed.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn database and communication platforms (eg : Slack, Microsoft Office & Google Drive Suite)
- Ability to work independently and in team settings. Strong interpersonal communications skills. with an outgoing personality and a passion for social and radical justice.

- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and complete assignments under strict deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work under pressure required.
- Have a working knowledge of spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite, and using a database (ideally Salesforce) to run reports.
- Flexible work schedule, some evenings or weekends required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the organization as a whole
Salary and Benefits :
MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days.
The hourly rate for this position is $24.00.
