Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 am to 3 : 30 pm
The Hampton Roads Clinic, part of the Hampton - Newport News Community Services Board, is dedicated to helping individuals with a dependence on opioids, such as prescription pain medications, heroin, and morphine, on their path to recovery.
The Hampton Roads Clinic offers comprehensive outpatient treatment and recovery services, focusing on the use of methadone as prescribed by a licensed physician.
In addition to offering the evidence-based medication, methadone, we provide a continuum of psycho-social services to include counseling, peer support, care coordination, and referrals to other social support services.
The community served includes adults with a long history of opioid use disorders.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Specialist II who has personal experience with substance abuse dependence, recovery, and a desire to support others along their path to recovery.
The requirements for the Peer Recovery Specialist II position include :
Being a person who has experienced a substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery, including making progress in learning about and managing their condition, and in developing a life outside of, or in addition to, this condition.
Additionally, candidates must be a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with the VA Board of Counseling (RPRS), which includes the completion of DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training, and have at least one year of Peer Recovery Specialist experience.
Peer Recovery Services are critical and essential support services that help people with mental health and / or substance use disorders to access needed MH / SUD services and to provide necessary supports to keep individuals engaged in treatment or recovery support services.
Services and supports are provided by Peer Recovery Specialists who have had lived experience with mental health and / or substance use disorders (SUD) and who utilize their experience to support others in a journey toward self-defined recovery.
The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
