POSITION DETAILS

The Financial Aid Specialist will report to the Associate Director of Financial addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Specialist will be responsible for the following duties :

Serve as a resource to students via a caseload management system to ensure everyone is receiving accurate and timely information regarding their financial aid and future funding opportunities.

This includes hosting individual student meetings, information sessions, and phone / text / email outreach.

Organize the federal verification and secondary verification processes. Ensure all staff members are trained appropriately to meet deadlines and stay compliant.

In collaboration with other financial aid supervisors, maintain the office wide policies and procedures manual.

Participate in the data gathering and coordination of the annual financial aid audit. May serve as the lead representative for the questions during reviews, and assists in post-audit responses.

Run and analyze reports to review staff efficacy to meet deadlines and ensure all students correctly receive and understand their aid.

Award, reconcile, and track scholarships to recipients via Hunter’s scholarship manager and student information system.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in higher education or a related field.
  • Existingcomprehensive knowledge of Federal and State programs, regulations, and policies.
  • Student centered approach with a strong commitment to service.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar product.
  • Experience in planning financial aid workshops and events
  • This position will require occasional evenings and / or weekend work.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.

Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs

Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds

Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students / families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility

May review and reconcile student payroll processing

Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly

Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes

Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities

Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience $62,411-$72,667.
