Job Overview
JENSEN HUGHES is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our dynamic team in the Research and Development, Forensic, and Investigative Testing Laboratory located in our Baltimore, MD fire office.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background and interest in construction; including welding, fabrication, and light machining, as well as instrumentation, to support the setup and execution of lab testing experiments.
This role requires basic fire-fighting skills and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of lab safety and equipment operation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare test specimens through various construction methods such as welding, fabrication, painting, etc.
- Set up instrumentation for experiments and provide video and photographic documentation of testing processes.
- Assist in conducting live fire testing, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Perform small-scale standardized tests following established protocols.
- Process test data, including plotting and data conversion, to generate meaningful insights.
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of lab equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Track calibration due dates for equipment and schedule timely calibration activities.
- Purchase necessary equipment and supplies for the laboratory, ensuring cost effectiveness and quality.
- Work closely with machine shops to fabricate test equipment and parts as required.
- Oversee lab safety practices and ensure compliance with safety regulations at all times.
- Operate lab equipment efficiently and safely, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory space.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education : High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications : Current forklift and scissor lift certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of related technical experience required.
- Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment effectively and safely
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and solve problems efficiently.
- Proficient in computer usage with familiarity in Microsoft Excel and Word for data analysis and documentation.
- Firefighter training or certification is a plus
- Must be capable of lifting and carrying object weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to stoop, squat, bend, push, pull, and lift objects and / or equipment of various weight, size, and design as required for laboratory tasks.
