THE POSITION
Under general supervision, instructs and supervises instruction of youth and adults participating in the City of Commerce Karate Program.

Organizes, schedules, develops and teaches basic karate techniques to provide a quality competitive environment to train and motivate young athletes and adults in the sport of karate;
instructs karate team participants on safe karate techniques, and physical training regimens.
- Organizes and coordinates karate team practices and physical workouts.
- Controls, inventories, maintains and issues an assortment of materials and equipment
- Explains the rules and techniques for karate activities; evaluates performance of program participants and assists with skills improvement.
- Conducts grading / testing for belt-level advancement in the program.
- Supervises program participants, and enforces rules, regulations and safety precautions at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities;
- maintains discipline, monitors behavior and resolves issues; monitors program activities, and assists participants in recreation activities and special programs;
reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.
Sets up and takes down equipment and prepares venue for activities and events; supervises, instructs and coaches participants;
maintains equipment and facilities in clean and safe condition; communicates with general public, community resource agencies, and other organizations in order to coordinate and promote program activities.
Evaluates program for effectiveness and participation levels; tracks services provided, monitors results, and generates operational reports as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience :
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two year's experience in recreation programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must posses a California Class C Driver's License at the time of application.
- Must obtain a passenger endorsement Driver's License within 90 days of appointment.
- Must possess certificates for First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer within 90 days of appointment. .
- Must be certified as a Black Belt.
