Job Summary
Works with Cardiology physicians, clinicians, providers and adminstration to provide support to patients undergoing rhythm diagnosis or patients that have been diagnosed with cardiac rhythm problem and need or have already have a permanent pacemaker (PPM) or defibrillator (ICD)device implanted.
Coordinate daily functions of the PPM and ICD clinic(s) by performing device checks in the office or over the phone to ensure device function is within recommended parameters as prescribed by the attending / implanting Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist, and reprograms devices accordingly.
Collaborates with Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist on the device and its place in the patient's total treatment plan.
Also, applies and interprets monitoring via telephone, remote telemetry or in the office as ordered by the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist for patients undergoing diagnostic testing of cardiac rhythms.
Accountabilities
- Coordinates daily function of the pacemaker or defibrillator clinic(s)
- Performs device checks on patients, either in the office or trans-telephonically as indicated.
- Reprograms devices as directed by attending / implanting physician to achieve optimal pacemaker performance.
- Educates patients and provides follow-up reminders on further device checks that follow established device industry and medical community protocols for each device.
- Collaborates as needed with physicians and other appropriate providers regarding the device function and status as it is related to the patient's total treatment plan.
- Applies temporary external monitoring (i.e. Holter and Event) as prescribed by cardiologist or electrophysiologist for diagnostic testing of cardiac rhythms.
Coordinates the return and performs the interpretation of the monitors .
- Provides attending / implanting cardiologist or electrophysiologist with full diagnostic reports from temporary external monitoring and device checks to allow for adequate provider follow-up and / or adjustment
- Maintains necessary records and documentation on patient's device
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Post high-school education up to 18 months
Graduate of an accredited Cardiac Device School

In lieu of the experience and / or educational requirements indicated above a combination of education, training, and / or experience will be considered an equivalent substitution : In lieu of graduate of accredited Cardiac Device School : Post high school education in allied health or nursing field and 2 years of cardiac device management and function experience.

International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification - Preferred
