Description

The Manager will provide leadership and strategic collaboration in advancing community health initiatives across Chicago.

The position will foster collaborative relationships, provide oversight for program planning and implementation, cultivate partnerships, oversee program operations, and advocate for health equity at local, regional, and national levels.

The Manager will oversee a team of program staff and a portfolio of community health projects, while also seeking opportunities for innovation, expanded collaborations and fundraising.

This position provides support to ensure success of the department’s annual goals and Lurie Children’s community health strategy and organizational mission Job Responsibility :

Provide managerial leadership in fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including community leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, and public health practitioners to identify current and emerging health priorities and develop innovative community health and engagement strategies.

Provide oversight to ensure the successful planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a portfolio of community health and engagement initiatives, programs and events within the Magoon Institute, ensuring strategic alignment in collaboration with Director and department leadership with evolving community needs, community health priorities and strategies and organizational mission.

Provide oversight and guidance to program staff working as contacts and liaisons for Lurie Children’s with community partners, residents, and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods, advocating for equitable access to resources and services for those disproportionately affected by health inequities.

Strategically cultivate and strengthen relationships with community-based organizations, educational institutions, faith-based groups, businesses, and service providers to advance community health efforts through leadership, strategic engagement, collaboration and capacity-building activities.

Oversee the facilitation of community and city-wide convenings, including designing and coordinating training sessions, workshops, forums and curricula that promote inclusive participation and diverse perspectives.

Lead and oversee program operations, logistics, financial stewardship, budget projections, expenditure tracking, and resource allocation to optimize efficiency and effectiveness while maintaining high-quality deliverables and timely reporting on project progress, outcomes and impact.

Support administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms / space, making copies, preparing meeting supplies, taking notes and compiling key takeaways, decisions and action items.

Lead development and oversee the implementation of communications, marketing and social media strategies to raise awareness, promote engagement, and amplify impact for community health initiatives, including delivering presentations and representing the organization in various forums.

Lead and oversee program evaluation and quality improvement efforts by designing robust data collection mechanisms, analyzing programmatic outputs and outcomes, and synthesizing findings to inform strategic decision-making and continuous quality improvement.

Lead efforts to facilitate connections between Lurie Children's healthcare providers and community partners, leveraging relationships to enhance access to health education, resources, and services for children and families, while strategically engaging organizational leadership and partners in community health efforts.

In collaboration with Director and dept leadership, manage the development of grant and philanthropic applications and sponsor / donor reporting, as well as provide input on collaborative fundraising efforts.

Conduct personnel management responsibilities, supervise staff and oversee performance, including hiring, separating, promoting, demoting, conducting performance evaluations, setting goals and providing feedback to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and individual development needs.

Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to program assistants, program coordinators, program specialists, students, interns, and volunteers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the department.

Serve as a visible and influential representative of Lurie Children’s and Magoon Institute on community and city-wide coalitions and initiatives, advocating for policies and practices that promote health equity and justice.

Lead regular check-ins and meetings with leadership, managers, staff, and collaborators, providing updates on programmatic activities, soliciting feedback, and fostering cross-functional collaboration and alignment.

Proactively seek, identify and create opportunities for innovation, collaboration and partnership, while staying abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and evidence-based interventions in the field of community health and share with direct reports.

Advocate for policies and resources that promote health equity and address social influencers of health at the local, regional, and national levels.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. A combination of education and / or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience is directly related to the duties of the job.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare / public health, administration, or related field required;

experience with personnel and / or progressive project management preferred.

Experience in healthcare setting also preferred.

Strong leadership and team management abilities with a focus on fostering a positive work environment.

Excellent project management experience and organizational skills required. Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends, travel throughout Chicago likely.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.

Expert proficiency in Microsoft 365 software required.

Experience with database management, basic data analytics, financial software, and survey tools preferred. Demonstrated ability to work on complex issues, integrate multifaceted initiatives and manage multiply projects.

Ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines and build relationships across all levels of the organization.

Ability to take initiative, work independently and be self-directed. Commitment to health equity, diversity and inclusion, racial justice, evidence-informed policy and practices, data-driven advocacy and community-driven processes.
