Travel Nurse RN - Psych - $6,250 per week in Williamsburg, VA

Eastern State Hospital is seeking BC / BE Psychiatric MD / DO to assist with locum tenens coverage. Experience working with an acute and chronic adult inpatient population is required, and forensic population, preferred.

Details for the assignment are provided below :

Assignment :

o· Available to start October 10, 2024 (pending credentialing)

o· Initial Appointment for 3-month (90 day) consecutive assignment, PREFERRED, with option to extend 3 -6-month assignment, if the position remains unfilled

o· Full-time, 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 pm with 1 hour lunch break, no alternative schedules accepted

o· NOT approved for overtime

o· No weekends, no holidays, no on-call duty

o· Ability to provide cross coverage, to include forensic populations, as required

o· Once a month, participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12 : 00 PM 1 : 00 PM)

oQualifications :

o· 3+ more years as a Physician / Practitioner

o· Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI)

o· Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plus

o· Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.

o· Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover

o· Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team

o· BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required

Position Details :

o· Facility Hospitalizations : Acute, Adult, Inpatient wards (male & female)

o· Facility Demographics : Forensic, NGRI, Civil, Jail Transfer, and Geriatric populations

o· Facility Stay : Short and Long-term length of stay

oo Caseload varies by ward and assignment (40-45)

o· Psychiatry coverage is provided

o· Full complement of interdisciplinary team members

oResponsibilities include but are not limited to :

o· Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.

o· Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist / practitioner.

o· Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.

o· Orders diagnostic / therapeutic tests and procedures.

o· Monitors patients’ progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.

o· Consults with authorized representatives / legal guardians on patient medical status.

o· Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.

o· Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.

o· Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.

o· Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
