Duties

As a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist (Deputy Communications Director), you will perform the following duties :

  • Oversee the development of external and internal communication strategies and the implementation of those strategies to support Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.
  • S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)'s messages;
  • Supervise a group of employees performing work at the GS-13 levels and provide administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit;
  • Ensure that all information and materials prepared and released accurately reflect the policies, views, and program initiatives of the HSI, ICE, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS); and
  • Develop and disseminate material for internal and external use; and advise on potential media and public reaction to proposed policies and programs.

You qualify for GS-14 if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade or equivalent performing duties such as :

  • Performing administrative and human resources management functions relative to the staff supervised;
  • Developing policies and making recommendations regarding dissemination of information to correct misperceptions and enhance public understanding;
  • Providing consultation to managers on developing public affairs activities and materials for internal and external use; and
  • Effectively managing the allocation of resources, personnel, and budget for producing marketing material.
