Position Summary

The CAO of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department manages all administrative services in relation to the department's teaching, research and public service activities.

Responsible for planning and policy development, management of operational services, budgetary control, selection and supervision of personnel, and administrative analysis and problem solving.

Oversees and manages the expenditures of departmental general support funds, equipment, part-time faculty and Teacher Assistant budget, Various Donors and other discretionary funds, in consultation with the Chair.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of management principles and practices and their application in a large, institutional environment. (Required)
  • General knowledge of accounting concepts and procedures and skill in long-range budget planning, analysis and fiscal management. (Required)
  • General knowledge of electronic data processing systems and application programs for data base management. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of UC policies and procedures that affect academic departmental administration, particularly in areas of (1) academic, staff and apprentice personnel, (2) contract and grant administration, (3) student affairs, (4) purchasing and equipment. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated skills in directing groups of people, delegating work, supervising, and motivating subordinates. (Required)
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public. (Required)
  • Skill in recruiting, training, interviewing, evaluating job performance, job analysis and writing job descriptions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated written communication skills to prepare concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports, correspondence, policies and procedures. (Required)
  • Ability to assess knowledge, skills, and abilities of departmental personnel sufficient to adjust work assignments to achieve high organizational productivity, meet goals and articulate future direction of a research / academic environment . (Required)
  • General knowledge of basic technical concepts and information about electronics and related fields of high technology. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act at multiple levels, from the strategic and broadly conceptual to the detailed and tactically specific (Required)
  • Ability to access knowledge, skills and characteristics of departmental personnel so as to adjust work assignment to achieve high organizational productivity with low friction (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience (Required)
