The Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin fall 2025.

The goal of this position is to enhance department expertise related to exercise physiology, human performance, and athletic medicine in areas related to metabolism and nutrition.

The ideal candidate will address complex problems related to human physiology asking innovative and applied questions using human participants that will provide generalizable benefits for people across ages, abilities, and health.

They will contribute to transdisciplinary collaboration in education and research efforts at the UO related to sport, wellness, and human performance.

  • Desirable areas of expertise include : female athlete nutrition and metabolism; metabolism and nutrition in sport and performance;
  • sex differences and training optimization with nutritional interventions; nutrition interventions to optimize wellness; precision nutrition;

integrative and functional nutrition and metabolism; nutritional strategies for menopausal transitions; nutrition across the lifespan.

Department or Program Summary

The Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine, allied health professions, and biomedical research.

The department has strengths in cardiovascular, respiratory and muscle physiology, neuroscience / motor control, cell signaling and metabolism, and biomechanics.

Human Physiology has strong partnerships with university athletics, the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, and is aligned with a multiple groups both on and off campus related to sport and wellness.

The department is strongly committed to inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.

Minimum Requirements

For Assistant Professor Rank :

  • PhD in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Nutrition, Human Performance, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Physiology, or related field
  • 2 years postdoctoral research experience
  • Research experience related to metabolism or nutrition in human participants.

For Associate Professor rank :

All of the above plus 6 years of research experience in a tenure track position or equivalent independent position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Promising publication record
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience with university-level teaching
