Job Summary

The Manager, Transplant reports directly to the Associate Director, Transplant and ensures daily operations supporting the development of the clinical affairs infrastructure and programs for patient safety and quality care in the Comprehensive Transplant Center.

The Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, serves as liaison with medical staff and other multidisciplinary personnel, promotes the maximum growth and development of each employee, supports research, participates in strategic planning, both long and short term, and assures patient advocacy.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards, and licensure requirements.

Maintains staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures, and protocols.

Assumes fiscal responsibility for the unit / department within scope, including budget preparation, labor and supply cost management, and revenue enhancement.

Develops business and operations plans for unit / department and specific programs and services within it. Partners with Associate Director, medical and surgical directors to promote sustainable growth of organ programs and services.

Establishes patient assessment process and treatment care plans for patient population.

Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

Supervises the delivery of patient care and ensures optimal levels and continuous improvement of clinical and service quality within the unit for all service line customers.

Collaborates with Transplant Quality leaders to supports appropriate quality control programs.

Supervises employees, including responsibility for determining qualifications, hiring, maintaining, and improving competence, assigning work, coaching, training (e.

g., orientation, in-service and continuing education), evaluating performance, compensation, discipline and terminating employment.

Provides daily oversight of all Transplant Coordinators and clinical nurses as well as provides continual regulatory readiness for United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Collaborates with associate directors and other clinical / support associate directors in cross-functional process improvement, collaborative teamwork, open communication, and problem solving to ensure the effective coordination and integration of services within and between departments.

Manages the effective utilization of human resources, supplies and equipment within the department,

appropriate staffing and management of productivity. Develops staffing plans in response to patient volume and activity. Supervises a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.

Recommends space and other resources for needed services. Knowledge of or participates in selecting transplant related or other outside sources for needed services, such as Organ Procurement Organizations, UNOS, Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN).

Maintains constructive collegial relations with service line, division, and clinical / support medical staff.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing Required

Master's Degree in Nursing Preferred

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required

RN State of California License Required

Experience

5 years of Management experience in a healthcare or hospital setting required

3 years solid organ transplant or mechanical circulatory support experience preferred
